This session has such a special story behind it all. Last year, Raven photographed another proposal who happened to be friends with Paul and Christy. When they shared their photos, Christy fell in love with them. She told Paul how much she loves them, but she also didn't know who took the photos. When it came time for Paul to pop the question to Christy, he knew exactly how to do it...
For some back story, Paul and Christy live in New York. Raven is here in the Bay Area. Their friend's proposal was also shot here in the Bay Area, so it didn't seem likely that Paul could have Raven capture their proposal as well. Until they planned a trip to San Francisco this past June. When Paul realized he could make this a reality, he reached out to his buddy, Sean, to ask him who he hired. Sean told him he hired Raven and send Paul the information. When he reached out to me, I was so surprised he went through all the trouble to getting Christy here in the Bay Area and finding Raven, we just knew we had to find some time to schedule them in.
The plan was for Raven to just act like a fellow tourist at Baker Beach. We had coordinated with Paul what they would be wearing, we shared photos of one another to make sure everyone could recognize everyone, and Raven was ready for the shot. However, sometimes things don't always go as planned. Unfortunately the space was a little larger than expected, so they missed each other. Paul looked around for Raven and Raven looked around for him. When Raven finally caught up with them, she decided to step in and ask if she could take a few photos of them to expand her portfolio as a "novice photographer" (She is far from a novice photographer, but she needed an excuse!). They agreed and posed for a photo before Paul reached into his pocket, knelt to the ground, and asked Christy to marry him. She was so shocked and surprised that Paul would have proposed in that moment and Raven continued to capture her shock. Once the surprise wore off, she said "yes!" However, the proposal may not be the biggest surprise to Christy. Once they had a moment to themselves, Raven introduced herself to Christy and she completely flipped out! Gotta say, Paul, you did a great job!
